Which to get? Blue spot Timor or regular Timor

SPJ01 Apr 21, 2005 06:57 PM

I realize both types are on the skittish side but which would tolerate occasional handling for maintenace better?
I like the blue spots more but would rather go with the less psycho kind when it comes time to move it out of it's cage for cleaning, etc. (don't want to spend a 1/2 hour trying to cath it and stress it).

i had some yellow spot timor befor they were pretty layed back and if you want tame buy a c/b baby so it is small and easy to work with and Ben S. has got blue spots c/b for sale in the monitor classified';'s good luck cause imports don't look as good and can not be people friendly, like smashing in to the wall at 10mph ever time you walk past them which ever you get put a lot of dirt in there the love to dig and lots of hiding places most of the time mine like to hide most of the day or half there body haging out between 2 rocks basking under the light ready to slip back between the rocks so they can't be seen

I'm sorry to say this, but the "CB" timors that you see for sale are not captive bred; heck, they aren't even captive born... They are all wild caught... Sticking the "CB" status on there is just a marketing ploy, or a way of legally exporting the animals out of indonesia.. The same thing goes with all of the "CB" niles and "CB" savanahs and water monitors and just about every other imported monitor..

The whole "Captive Born" thing is a sham, as all of these babies that you see are wild caught, and not captive bred, or born... So don't be fooled... One of these "CB" timors is not going to be any different than a timor labeled as a WC.... they are the same thing, just advertised/imported under a different status...

The only captive born or captive hatched monitors that I see coming in are V. melinus and possibly some V. salvadorii...I know that bushmaster is breeding V. melinus- hence all the babies you see.. BUt I could be mistaken about that too... Needless to say, unless the animal's parents bred, laid eggs, and the eggs hatched here in the US, I would be careful with what I believe....

Cheers,

Bob
