Striped Tail Boas?

Casey31179 Apr 21, 2005 09:18 PM

I have come across a local guy who just had a litter a boas born. In this litter was 9 boas with thier tails striped instead of the typical spots. I am assuming these boas r worth more then regulars. I am interested in buying them all off him and I am wondering what they r worth. Also there is one other that he won't part with that is stripe from his head all the way to his tail. Really neat looking I was hoping to get it but the guy says no way. LOL I guess I can't blame him! Is there a good chance that if I breed the boas that I could get a complete stripe like thier sibling?

Thanks
Casey

On a serius note, one cannot guarentee weather or not this has happened due to genetic's or just a fluke due to many different things during the females pregnancy! If the person knows the background on the animals an it is genetic,Well yes it could happen,But If this is not known it is still possible it could happen,But the only way of proving this is threw breeding trials! But in the end one could end up with some very nicely stryped or deviant boa's that are no more than beautiful boa's!So becareful what you are paying for!Hope this helps and good luck with your decision!Eric[Hypoboa]

I agree with Eric. Many people will produce litters with some degree of striping and reverse striping; just because the striping may be present does not guarantee that those specific boas will produce the same. If you can get a good deal on these boas then go for it, but if this person is asking for an arm and a leg I would do more research before investing a large amount of money in any boa. Find out if the parents are from a stripe line. But hey, it's only my opinion. My advice is that if you like the boas and if you think they are a good investment then you should go for it. Everyone will have different opinions and may tell you what they believe is best for you, but only you know that. I hope his helps. Here is my lil striper.

The boas are only $30 a piece which I thought were cheap so /i think I might give them a whirl and see what I can get out of them in a few years. Thanks for the advice.

I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a small group of them at that price.. Worst case scenario down the road is you end up with some unique nice normal adults that were dirt cheap.

Good luck.

I wouldn't sell normals for $30! Consider the caging and husbandry requirements for a larger collection and then have fun!

Here's another fluke stripe. I was breeding for the nice salmony colour (not a morph, just family lineage)and out came "Racer"! I don't think I"ll try to prove it through breeding, but she sure will make a sweet pet
