NBC4 (Los Angeles, California) 21 April 05 Zoo Celebrates Alligator's 70th Birthday - Gator Could Be Oldest
Riga, Latvia: The Riga Zoo celebrated the 70th birthday of what could be the oldest American alligator in existence.
"Cabulitis," or "Sweetie Baby" in Latvian, arrived at the zoo in 1935.
He came with three other alligators that have since died.
Zookeepers said they have read that an American, or Mississippi, alligator can live to be 100.
Cabulitis' keepers trust him so much they sometimes feed him by hand.
In 1965, Cabulitis was moved to Kiev to mate with two other females. The pairing didn't work out.
He has lived in Riga since 1966.
