Many herps over the last months in a series of half-hearted searches:
More Eumeces than I've ever seen. Is this because of more-than-ample rainfall?
2 Coluber sp., both Santa Clara County
2 L. zonata, one of them a quarter mile from a populous downtown district in early March. Bizarre, given the particular spot.
4 L. getulus, various ages, various localities. The Mt. Hamilton morphs are distinctly different from the coastals. Same is true for the zonatas. Are Mt. Hamilton animals distinct ssp from the others? Anyone?
3 Thamnophis atratus, all Santa Clara Co.
6 Charina b., five in Santa Clara Co., one of them I found in San Mateo County on March 9.
3 Crotalus. Stepped WAY too close to one of them.
TMTC Contia, Diadophis, Sceloperus, Batrachoseps, Ensatina, Aniedes, Taricha, yadda yadda yadda...
What might I find if I got serious about it?
I might be open to a herping buddy who has a motorcycle and can ride fast enough to get from the top of Mt. Hamilton to Scott's Valley in under an hour.
Someday maybe I'll borrow a camera and take more pictures of my arm hair.
