NEW SOMALI URO PAIR!

pgross8245 Apr 22, 2005 11:55 AM

I was very excited to receive my new pair of Somali uros this morning. I have wanted a pair of these for a few years now, so feel priviledged to have them. Of course these are wc, so I will have to watch them carefully to get them properly acclimated. Took a few pictures to share. I always enjoy taking a picture when them arrive so I can see the changes later on. The boy is names Amani and the girl is named Abeba. Enjoy!

Aw, Pam, they're just beautiful! I love seeing your pictures, too - they're always great! Congratulations, and good luck getting them settled in with you!

Macfads are awesome. I picked out six of them yesterday (three triples). I was told that the shipment that came into LA has only been in country for a few days at most, so make sure you're prompt with a vet checkup, deparasitizing, etc. They're a wonderful, highly interactive, and highly active species.

Congratulations! Your new Macfadyeni pair are beautiful! I have a single female somalian. I'm assuming you must be American because here in Canada that species is very difficult to find. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that eventually I'll find a male!

Cheers!

Thanks so much. I am assuming by your post that it is not possible to ship a uro from the US to Canada. That's too bad as this company had many for an excellent price too. Good luck in your search!

Yes, particularly when males turn up in excess.

I'm not sure if you're anywhere near Mississauga, Ontario. If you are, try looking at the Reptile Expo when it comes to town. I went the last time and saw several different kinds of uros there (including some nice Somalis I would've liked to buy but money's a little tight and hubby isn't ready for more uros yet).

Good luck

Thanks Sunfox!
I attended the last expo on april 17th, I didn't see any. Do you remember who had them? Maybe there's a chance they might still have some? I also went to the expo in Feb? Port Credit had some nice sudanese uromastyx but I didn't see any this time around.

Hey Pam! I remember a few years ago (probably more than we'd like to admit. LOL) that your addiction to uros was beginning... You have placed so much care into your uros and it shows!!! You should be able to acclimate them well with your care. Geez, just look at Fanta now and I have her food bills to prove it!!! LOLOLOL

Thanks Greg and everyone else too! I have been looking for these for quite awhile, so am excited to have found them. The male is quite stunning when warmed up. They were not hiding later yesterday and were exploring their new home and I think I saw Abeba eating some greens. Of course when dandelions would be fantastic, it has been cold and rainy here so the darn flowers are all closed up. I went out to buy hibiscus yesterday and they were not in stock either as of yet. Bummer. As far as Fanta goes, I had to send her to you as the third mortgage on the house to feed her was getting to be to much. LOL Waiting to see if she has eggs! Talk to you later.

Thanks Eve, I was very happy with them. It sure would be nice to pick them out myself though, but Wisconsin is nowhereland for herps. LOL They are quite freaked, so I don't disturb them at all. I know they have been eating, which is a good sign. I just go about my business in the reptile room and talk to everyone else and today they just sat and listened and didn't bolt to the corners, so a minute amount of progress has been made. I really don't like to buy wc, but with the Somalis I don't think there is a choice, so patient I will be.
