It depends. WHere do you live? If i had to guess i would say a gray rat (but dont take my word for it im prolly wrong) Maybe if your down in the texas area a trans-pecos. Others im sure will clarify this for you but you need to tell us where abouts you live.

she told me the snake was very mean... but s/he did have a meal... i'll assume it was a pinky but i'm unsure... the individual that found the snake breeds dragons (not sure if she'd have pinkies laying around)

What do these snakes go for?

do you have a price range for me? is it possible for her to sell this... is it legal? or should she just let it out?

Doug89 Apr 22, 2005 02:41 PM

Check state laws and regs but i think it's ok. As far as price goes if it is just a standard one not leuc. or albino maybe 30-40 plus shipping. Check the classifieds. Mine was 90 (w/shipping) but she's leuc.

texas rat snakes don't go for much, esp. w/c. w/c snakes tend to be more nippy, have to be tested for parasites and commonly carry mites. if she keeps other snakes, i would not keep it anywhere close to the others...as in a few rooms away. The parasites and mites could infest the other snakes or reptiles.

Let it go. You won't get maybe $15 for it. Not worth your troubles, IMO. It was born wild, let it stay wild.

To sell this snake for the $15 it is worth, she would have to buy a non-game collectors permit. Those are around $25. Then she could only sell it to someone with a non-game dealers permit. If she couldn't find a someone with a dealer's permit to sell it to, she would need a dealer's permit herself ($60). Therefore it could cost her up to $60 to sell a $15 snake, if she could find a buyer.

Did your friend feed the snake? If not, that lump represents a substantial meal, probably a mouse. This means there are probably mice in the house as well as TX ratsnakes.
