I found this odd looking Sonoran last weekend on a local herping trip. Hes quite dark, and has a odd pattern. I have found many different variations and the first one quite like this.

I don't usually collect gophers, but this one had to come home for a future breeding project!

Hey That's pretty cool and really dark too.

Hi there, was that snake possibly found in/near an integration zone? The fused black on the neck is very un sonoran like. I've seen similar looking pits where affinis and annectens meet, and some affinis/sayi mixes. Just curious, it's definitely unusual.

Hi it was found nowhere near a intergrade zone, It was found about a hour NW of Phoenix. The Great Basin gophers are 5-6 hour drive North. He was found in the middle of nowhere in very rugged rocky terrain. Every other gopher I have found in that area was typical Sonoran, I think hes just a odd unit! I will stick him with my Normal female, and a albino sonoran this year.
Why did I know that would be the case!...LOL. That's cool, work it up and see what comes of it. Nice find.
