Venomoid or not thats really no way to handle a gaboon viper. And by posting this pic, leaveing it to spread around the web for inexperinced keepers to see how "the big breeders" handle their stock. I see nothing benifical or educational about this pic or post. All I see is the bane of the hobby/industry, the mistreatment and disrespect of the animal.
But thats just me,...
I agree. First of all, you are in the wrong forum because from last I heard the gaboon viper is no form of a ball python. It's one thing to do dangerous stunts with your venomoid and endager your own life, but to present it on the internet where thousands of people read through these forums daily will only fault in a mistake. The little guys with a few snakes may see this as "okay" to do with a venomoid that could send you to the hospital.
On another forum a user recently posted about the opertunity to get a free "venomoid" Eastern Diamond Back from a friend who could no longer keep it. After haveing it checked by a vet, it turned out to have a full hot load of venom.
It has also been documented that some procedures arent a permanent solution, as sometimes parts are regenerated makeing them once again a vieable "hot".
Our animals are not toys! They shouldnt be treated as such. With all of the proposed bans, and contraversy over reptiles (especaly ones that can kill you) The last thing the hobby/industry needs is public posts quizing wich well known breeders are acting irresponibly with a viper. It reflects on all of us.
Why don't you guys call him and tell him yourself? I'm sure he would be more than happy to tell you what you can do with your opinions. Also, if you knew who it is, you would know why it relates to this forum.
I watched the whole thing, the pic looks worse than it actually was. Nobody was in any real danger. Are you guys sure that's a real live snake in his hand? I might be messing with you.
It's more dangerous to let a big dog walk around a todler if you ask me. That's just my opinion.
Oh no, I'm picking on the dog lovers again. I'll be waiting for the hate posts.
"It's more dangerous to let a big dog walk around a todler if you ask me. That's just my opinion."
Id be more than happy to tell you what to do with your opinion...
I'll be at the White Plains show this weekend if you would like to tell me in person.
I really see no reason to drive that distance to deal with suck light work..
This post has nothing to do with ball pythons even if it is pete kahl.. And given the choice of putting your child next to a dog, or a Gaboon Viper, which would you pick? You really have o ground to stand on with this post. Its just a sad attempt to get a little recognition via name dropping.
Well, I could always drive to you. Lol.
Your right, it was a sad attempt at name dropping. Next time I'll use your name and pic when we finally meet.
Hey Digital, I could go on all night like this. I'm just busting your ba$$s. I do agree with you to a point, but Gino was in no danger, and neither was Pete.
The people who want legislation could over react to my post, just like you did. I'm glad I didn't post the pic of the King Cobra and the baby. Lol.
You got me to thinking about this name dropping stuff though. I'm going to have to do it more often.
ps. There was no King Cobra and baby. I'm just having more irresponsible fun.
Sorry guys, it's just another sad case of me name dropping. Lol

What is the dude who takes full credit for the Fire Balls/Black eyed Leucies produced in England!
Are you talking about the miscredited pic? That's not quite the same as claiming credit for starting a line.
Wonder if Mr. Clark minds the pic with the sign to help people find his warehouse posted here (maybe it's in the phone book for all I know).
What Bob Clark and Mike Wilbanks did was realize that the Fire was the het for Lucy. They named it, and brought it to market.
Those England boys are still trying to say a Fire is a poss het. If I'm not mistaken, even Chub Rock (Ralph) has given up this fight. Since my momma is from England, I will refrain from saying what I really think of the notion that a Fire is a poss het.
Heck, no I won't. It's the dumbest thing I've heard yet. Well, maybe not the dumbest, I've been on this forum alot lately. Lol. I've been making lots of friends too. LMAO
Was there any credit ever given to the originator? Mr. BC took a nice dive with my respect for the dude~!
Big fargin egoes in the industry I tell you...smart man yes!
Brian A.
Yes, I do know the whole story. Do you?
Hi,
WAs just reading a post you made and all the peoples hatful replies. About the guy with the venomoid..
Loved your replies.
I understand the dangers of holding what you think to be "venomoid". But.... who yells at the BIG snake keepers for handling thier snakes???
The big Bumese, Green Condas, REtics, etc.?????
These snakes can kill them and have been known to, just as easilly. So why do they only get mad for people handling the venomoids?
I think everyone knows the risk they put themsleves into.
I just dont see why people get so worked up about it.

..... mainly because there are a lot of people out there that want to make it illegal to have these animals. And when big breeders "look" like they are being irresponsible then those activists use it to their advantage.
Lets face it if the big breeders do it then everyone else should too right!?!? LOL right back at you Neil!

I'm not sure if someone named Crazy Zoo Lady coming to my defense is a good thing, but I'll take it. Lol. Don't worry about me CZL, I'm having fun with this.
I will say though, that the Crazy Zoo Lady makes some good points. What do you scaredy cats got to say about that? Lol
Crazy as they come in a female package.
(That I've ever met anyhow)
Oh...but in a sane sort of way....LOL

A venomoid is a term used to refer to a reptile that has in some way had its venom ducts/glands removed or incapcitated. A RESPONSIBLE KEEPER WILL STILL TREAT THEM AS IF THEY WERE FULL-BLOWN HOTS. While these animals should not be able to inject any venom, some find a way - usually through poor surgery or temporary incapacitation.
You should still equate venomoid = dangerous.

Do they leave the fangs alone? Don't gabbons have like huge ones? Even without venom it seems like they could puncture an organ or artery or eye. Of course dogs are pretty darn dangerous too but I think horses are about the worst. Funny the perceived vs. real risk.
They do leave the fangs. And the fangs can not only puncture arteries, but also give a nasty infection. this is true.
My persoanl opion still remains however. I have NOTHING against vet performed procedured venomoids.
AND... I think it is a persons own decision wether they wnat to put themselves at taht risk of holding one.
just as much as Big snake keepers put themselves at risk when holding thier big snakes, that can easilly kill them. Peoples deceision to own Pit Bulls, or any other breed that they know is known for turning. Etc.
I understand perhaps you think the government will ban the ownership of venomous due to people getting bit by thier own stupidity. I understand your fears.
I dont agree at all with the goverment either, however.
-----
Crazy ZooLady
Jay I agree, unles you be bitten there's no REAL way of knowing if the capacity for poisoning is there or not. And who really wants to play THAT game? JMO
Quig
Personally, I think it was poor judgement to post the pic, Big shot or no, it still reflects badly and sets a bad example.
The "big dogs" should know how to tread softly by now...
We are all so close to losing our rights with regards to reptiles, that this kind of stuff is just fuel for the fire...
I see him handling hot snakes all the time on TV. Don't you think Pete Kahl knows what he's doing also? Do I have to keep saying it. Nobody was in any real danger, just like the Croc Hunters kid when he put it in front of the Croc.
Then again, there was a huge overeaction to that, so you have a valid point. If the sh%$ hits the fan, make sure you let me know where.
Don't mean to add fuel to the fire here, but the Croc hunter is like a kid in a candy store when he's playin' with snakes. The guy has two or three spotters keepin' an eye on things so he can talk and play at the same time. And if I ain't mistaken, his antsyness has gotten him tagged a time or three.
Quig
I was the spotter for Pete. Gino was also spotting, a Gaboon by his head. Lol
Neil, I'm not tryin' to argue this. Just that accidents do happen, and I wouldn't want the possible death of a friend haunting me for the rest of my days.
Quig
I just gave this some more thought. What the he$$ is a spotter gonna do? Unless you have Clark Kent spotting for you, there is no way you can do anything about a strike from a venomous animal.
another good reason for not playin' practical jokes with venomous/venomoid. Although it may be hilarious at the time, thing can always take a turn for the worse. It ain't worth the risk.
BTW, the pic with him danglin' the baby was a fake.
Quig
The video I saw was anything but fake.
Chieu Hoi Niel, I surrender!!
I didn't see the video, all I saw were the stills floodin' the net. And read that they were faked.
Quig
The croc hunter DID put his son in front of a croc. However, I am certain, he knew his limits and what he was doing. Would I recemend ANYONE else doing this? NO
But then, i just dont know anyone else with a CROC... lol
-----
Crazy ZooLady
LOL - I think we can all agree that no matter how controlled the situation, accidents can happen. I think we can also agree that pictures like this should not be posted on the internet, you never know what looney activist will use as an excuse to ban our animals. These are big time breeders appearing to be careless they could take that and run with it - no matter the actual situation.
Also whether your the Croc Guy or Michael Jackson - you don't dangle a baby anywhere.
Anyway - my two cents.

You've got to know me. I have my opinions, and I'm not shy about letting people know them. Lol. If anyone wants to meet this smart a$$, come to White Plains and introduce yourself. Just look for the best animals at the show, and you'll find me behind the table. LMAO.
Man, I should of been on this forum years ago.
Just look for the best animals at the show, and you'll find me behind the table.
Why will you be stealing them? LOL!!
SHHHHHHHHHHhhhh. Lol
Seriosly though, this show has more animals stolen than any other. I had quite a few stolen myself. I even caught a couple punks stealing a baby ball, but I let them go. An hour later I realized they got me for a $500 dollar animal also. I keep everything real valuable under lock and key.
I dont blame you!! Hey I never been to that show. I need directions from Cherry Hill NJ. Whats the fastest way?
Where and when is white plains?????
Or has theis event already passed

Take exit 5 off of 287 and go to the center.
Cool! See you there!!
Nerd? That small operation couldn't afford me. Lol. Kevin hasn't been coming to White Plains anymore. He tried, but he couldn't compete with me. LMAO.
Why bother....he does not need the show.
