She did it!!!! 25 eggs

redoaksblues Apr 23, 2005 07:12 AM

My girl did it. What amazing creatures they are. She did not look huge as I have seen in some pictures, but did a great job...she dug..laid.packed down and came up just in time for a big drink and juicy crickets....she looks fantastic and I am so proud of her...

Thank you everyone for all the tips/tricks. Everything worked great and I had no problems.......

Have no fear...anything she wants she gets...my husband keeps running in and if she looks like she is looking for water he carefully mists the leaves in front of her and she drinks it. She has already eaten 8 3/4 dusted crickets and is now climbing than sleeping. The eggs are safely incubating..(thank you for your wonderful site).

I know it is early..but how soon can you tell if they are fertile?

zenexotics Apr 23, 2005 09:54 AM

Infertile eggs will begin to mold...in my experience within the first month (make sure your medium isn't too wet....too much moisture can also cause molding). Take out them out when you see this, otherwise they will contaminate your other eggs. If all look fine after a couple of months, they are most likely fertile...but it doesn't mean all will hatch out. And the wait begins.....

Infertile eggs are smaller and have a yellowish look to them. they would collapse within a week or two if infertile.
Is she a panther?

redoaksblues Apr 23, 2005 02:58 PM

These are from a panther (nosey B- Kammers Legolas female and Screameleons Ice Man male)....thank you for your comment..it reassures me..hopefully they will hatch...I have them at 76-78 degrees now in vermiculite

kinyonga Apr 23, 2005 08:31 PM

Glad to hear that you made it through her egglaying! Its hard on
the nerves, eh??

25 is a perfect number IMHO!

Now comes the waiting for them to hatch. Don't know which is
worse...waiting for the eggs to be laid or waiting for them to
hatch!

Congrats!

If the eggs are not fertile, you should be able to tell within a
couple of weeks. I have never seen a fertile egg mold....but
infertile ones will likely mold and then shrivel up. Her clutch
could have some fertile and some infertile in it depending on
when she was mated within her cycle. I never throw an egg out
until I'm sure its no good.

Good luck with them!

Congrats! It is always nice to read about the successes and the ones that have no problem doing their thing. It is amazing (to us, at least ) what they do and the energy expended...just to walk away!

Cute about your hubby

How is your lovely lady? Did the vet give you any more info? You realize don't you that she doesn't belong just to you anymore.....she belongs to all of us now.....

lele Apr 23, 2005 11:27 AM

Yeah, she has lots of moms and dads! Her "issues" go back to winter 2003/2004 and some of the original forum members recall my fretting and frustration. The summer months seem to be rather uneventful so I am hoping for the same. She laid last July, but it was a breeze.

I posted below the vet visit results. Long and short of it - we know nothing! Well, not entirely, but she has lost the fluid and we do not know why she retained and then let it go. They did see follices in the ultrasound so she is developing another clutch and will monitor her Ca to see if we can figure out her cycling. I am glad it did not turn out to be organ damage, which I was relly worried about. She is still hanign by 2-4 legs upside down from her branches but is beginning to eat again.

thanks - and have fun with your eggs!

kinyonga Apr 23, 2005 08:41 PM

I just answered your question about how to tell if the eggs are
fertile or infertile....then I realized that you had a picture of
them in this post....
so...unless my eyes are deceiving me....the ones in the picture
look fertile!

redoaksblues Apr 24, 2005 06:41 AM

Yippeeee!!!

Any thoughts on the temperature for incubation? I have read anywhere from 72 - 84. I have it at 78 steady.

Thanx again for good thoughts!!!
