Isis may have some eggs

sunfox Apr 23, 2005 11:58 AM

although they'll probably be infertile. I noticed she was getting a little on the hefty side for the past month. I didn't think anything of it, that is, until she started digging EVERYTHING up in her tank. The digging started a few weeks ago and hasn't stopped yet. I also noticed her abdomen getting a little fatter and saw some roundish "lumps" towards her sides. She has these on both sides so I doubt it's a tumor or something harmful. After palpating them, I'm pretty sure that they are eggs. How long does the female carry the eggs around until oviposition? I'll do my best to make sure her nestbox is a very attractive spot for her. If she lays these eggs, it'll mean that she is not sterile and may be able to give me babies next year.

She has got the "lumpy" look. I count at least 4 eggs.

That is great news! If the eggs are infertile what happens once they are laid? Do female Uros just lays eggs every so often even if there is no male avail? Maybe Ra had a better grip on her then you imagine and you will have a nice surprise!
