Something is strange in my gecko cage. Today i went in and water everything and cleans it when ifound 2 eggs dried up. The weird thing is my cage is always misted and wet and both of my geckos r females cuz non of thm have the huge hemibulge. Can female geckos lay eggs on there own that arent fertile or could 1 be both male and female? please help me.

how long have you had them?If you recently got them as adults they could be gravid from their previous cagemates. A female can retain sperm and continue to produce fertile eggs for several months. I have heard of virgin females laying unfertilized eggs, But have never had any of my females do it. How old are they? If it was me I would provide them with a container of damp coco fiber to lay their next clutch in.This will prevent the next clutch from drying out. If they have been with a male the next clutch will come in 30 days. They will repeat this cycle several times. Keep them supplemented with calcium to prevent a crash. Good Luck

well im not sure how old the geckos are but if i had to guess they would have to b almost a year now. Ive had them for about 6 to 9 months now and they have never been with a male in their life. when i bought them they were cage mates and there was no other male. so if u can find out anything like this please tell me and the other thing is idk how long the eggs were there cuz i had to move and there at my grandaparents house and i just got to see them today so ill keep watchin for more eggs and i will keep it u posted on it.

they're infertiles. it's perfectly normal for a female to lay one or two sets of infertile eggs before laying fertile ones. it is probably being stimulated by the other female. get it a male, or separate the two. there are some people who post on here who have had 4 or 5 infertile clutches and the females have never even seen a male before.

(Actually, I remember reading somewhere that SOME lizards can lay fertile eggs in the absence of a male which hatch out as males, to fill what nature perceives as a void, ie. an environment with females but no appropriate males) but I don't know whether cresteds can. But female cresteds do lay eggs with or without males, as chickens do without ever having seen a rooster, or female human beings, who shed an egg every month or so (until menopause) whether or not there is a male in the picture. Just nature's way of facilitating reproduction, I guess. I hope you are feeding the CGD so that there is enough calcium in their diets at least.

I have had beardies lay infertiles. But of the dozen or so female cresteds I have raised to adults I have never had one lay an infertile egg. I have seen other postings here and read about it in books , just never experinced it.
