Sick Slider Turtle?

dominique Apr 23, 2005 01:27 PM

I have 2 baby sliders, and I think one may be sick. She is keeping her eyes closed for long amounts of time, and they seem to be bulging a little. And while she has them closed, her eyes look like two swollen red/ purple spots. Maybe it's just unusual coloring?
But when she opens them again, her eyes seem normal.
Is anyone familiar with what I'm describing? My other slider has clear eyes when opened and they look fine closed as well.
Please help if you think might know what's wrong...
I've only had the turtles since January, and I don't think her eyes were like this before.

turtles can get swollen puffy eyes for a number of reasons. It could be a vitamin A deficiency, or it could be an eye infection. Turtles can die from this so it's important to treat it as soon as possible, especially because it's a delicate baby RES. Your best option is to take it to a vet. If it is an eye infection you may even want to separate your turtles, but i'm not 100%
