when will she shed?

Doug89 Apr 23, 2005 02:25 PM

Hi guys i have a Leucistic Texas Rat Snake Yearling and im just wondering when she is gonna shed? I have had her for about 2 1/2 months now and she is probably about 8 months old. she has had alot of little flakes of dead skin sticking up around her head, the scale/plate between her eyes looks like there is a layer of dead crumpled skin on it. just wondering when to expect a shed. shes showing no classic signs of shed though. THanks

about that dead skin that is on your snake. To get it off, I suggest getting a small container, such as a Kritter Keeper. Put about 1/2 inch of tepid water in the bottom, then take a few paper towels and lay them in there. Put the snake on top of the paper towels, then put a few more DRIPPING wet paper towels on top of the snake. Secure the lid on the whole thing, put the container back into his cage, and wait about 1/2 hour. Check to see if all the shed skin is off. If not, put the snake and the Kritter Keeper assembly back in the cage and leave for a longer period. DON"T put it directly over the hot spot.

You can also take a wrung out paper towel after soaking the snake and kind of work off any stuck shed skin. Go in the direction of the scales and make sure that his tail doesn't have any shed skin stuck at the tip.

Well there isn't a whole lot of it on her head like i said earlier she just has little flakes here and there every now and them. She actually is calm enough to let be pluck them gently off of her head.
