A cabinet type cage for my monkey tailed skink. Made from some oak scraps I had laying around.
The pic does not do it justice. Lights are recessed in the top.
Door is oak framed 1/4" acrylic.
Finish is golden oak, and floor finish polyurethane.
Heater is in there baking the finish to speed up the off gassing

Nice work. Did you ever build large cages for your burms or did you go commerical? I can't remember what you decided.

Hey Chris...that photo does'nt do the cage much justice. As you can see, it is still baking...at very high temps.
The smell is gone so I hope to move my skink in this week.
I bought a large cage from Monster Cages. Pretty nice cage for the money. It took a beating in shipping though. I had to get a large cage fast, though their delivery took over 3 months.
I could'nt put a finish on a cage I built because of extremely cold temps here. My garage at times was around 20*. And any heating devices would make solvents go boom.
The radiator type did nothing.I even had a hard time finishing the cage in the pic because of super low temps.
However, once I catch up on spring chores, I will be building an 8ft cage, divided in two. I wanna make it a black color with a durable exterior finish. I was thinking of a piano finising product to do this with, then poly over that.
I need to research this finish. And then heat the whole thing with Pro Products RHPs.
I wont make framed doors next time. I'll just cut a rabbet around the door openings, and recess the door material in the rabbet.
I may cut, and pre-drill,and then finish the cage piece by piece, and then assemble right in the snake room.
Beats moving all that weight assembled.
