Calcium injection price?

peachstategeckos Apr 23, 2005 10:05 PM

Does anyone know how much it is to get a calcium injection? I know it changes from vet to vet but maybe an estimate?

I can't find my bill, but I think it was only aorund $15. I am sure it varies state to state - I am in NH.

Hi katie,

I am having some MBD issues with a cham (long, ongoing story) and got a reply from a regular on the KS cham forum re: calcitonin. Apparently, it takes Calcium from the blood and transfers it to the bones. The animal first must have a high enough Ca blood level before doing it or it could kill or do other damage, so obviously a vet needs to be closely monitoring the situation.

Here is the link to the thread:
Calcitonin

So I should get calcium shots and then get calcitonin?

your vet would need to assess that. He would first need to test for blood level Ca and then go from there. I am not a vet just someone who has ongoing calcium issues with an otherwise healthy chameleon (baffling) and has learned a lot thru the process. I would assume since you breed geckos you have a good herp vet? Give him a call

woops, posted above reply before reading this...yes, the vet is a good idea

A tip - watch too much sodium with pedialyte, which can cause fluid retention.
