Ackie or Timor as a first monitor.

Herp-Boy Apr 23, 2005 11:36 PM

Hello, I have been keeping reptiles for a couple of years and currently have two cresties, one Mali, and one Kenyan sand boa. This is my question: I would like to know what kind of dwarf monitor you guys would suggest for a first-time monitor owner. I have searched countless sites and have found that the ackie monitors are a good choice for beginers, but what about the timors or black-headed monitors? I understand that timors could be a bit flighty at times, but how are they in the long run? I know it may seem that I haven't done my research, but i'm just looking for some expertise before I make my purchase.

Want a beautiful monitor that you may never see, they hide alot, they run at the first sign of people or movement.
Ackies are brave, inquisitive, outgoing, and wnat to be involved in everything going on around them.
2 completely different personalties. My old timor Squirt to this day does the same thing, hes in a friends collection and is around 7 years old or so. The female with him is a bit more outgoing, but barely. Ackies are all CBB in this country, timors are 99% WC.

Thanks for the reply. I had feared that they were wild caught also. I think I will probably go with a red or yellow ackie. If anyone could tell me who is a good breeder of these little beauties it will be greatly appreciated.
