This is why I love Ms Peach.....>

LindaH Apr 24, 2005 01:50 AM

This little boy is "Garrett" and he loves snakes even though his parents are *NOT* snake people His dad brought him over to my house Friday night. They came with some other "boa" friends, and brought Garrett so he could hold some of mine.

Stage left: Enter Ms Peach. I dearly love this girl. She is such a wonderful ambassador for boas, and all snakes. I swear she likes to be held and I will debate it with anyone who says differently She will just hang out in a lap and never try to crawl away. She is the coolest girl and such a mellow, gentle sweetheart.

So....here she is "representing" for her kind and doing a wonderful job. How could anyone hold her and walk away hating snakes????? I don't think it could happen!! Someday, I'm gonna do a presentation at a local school. She will be the first one, I'll pack for the trip

I love her so much. When I see her gentleness, patience, and tolerance, it makes my heart hurt....in a good way.

I have some boas that are more valuable (monetarily).....but Ms Peach is a treasure to me, worth her weight in gold. Only you guys can understand loving a snake this much. I truly *do* love her. She is beautiful and gentle. I think she is large for a Hog Island, "Her Orangeness" weighs 19 lbs......more to love, huh?

and the digital scale kept going back and forth between 18 & 19. I'll have to measure her because I'm not sure of her length. She has always been big bodied and tends to get mmmm..."chubby"...so I have cut down on her food intake....and she thinks she's starving. She has actually lost weight in the last 3 months I don't know a lot about Hogs and haven't seen a lot (in the flesh) for comparison, but from what I hear and read, I'm guessing she is on the large end for them. I don't know if she is "pure" Hog either. I bought her for her coloring and lack of speckling. I fell in love with her....and the rest is history as they say....

She is the Mom to the Ghost x Hog baby above. I missed her this year, regarding breeding. The stinker had babies in March 04 and started maturing follicles in late June...my best guess. When I had her ultrasounded in early Sept., her follicles were already enormous. We were so shocked, we forgot to measure them!! They appeared to be 4 cent. or larger, and all smushed together. I about fainted! I brought her home and tried a male with her, but no luck. It was too late This year, I will be checking much earlier

as always! Next month is my first presentation at an elementry school. This girl is going along, she doesn't like being bugged though, shy hisser.

LindaH Apr 24, 2005 05:26 PM

Good luck with your presentation! I mean it. I haven't mustered up the courage to do it, yet. I have found a friend to go with me to offer strength and support.

The thing I really love about Ms Peach - is - that she is so huggable and always seems fine with it

I read your little note below. I did take four boas, four different ages, in to my biology class and my teacher had me "teach" all four classes that day. It was funny to see our 6ft. 250lb. football player afraid of them. The younger kids become acquainted with reptiles the better. I have a few friends that will be helping me out, and the first school I go to my mom teaches at. A little easier endeavor.

Great pics Linda. That is a beauty.

enjoy that little story. We were talking during their visit, and my friends told us about the time they took their boa to a local elementary school. They found that the really young children were unafraid of snakes, and in fact, were fascinated by them, touching them without hesitation. However, when they did presentations to the older kids, they saw more fear and reluctance to come up close and touch the boa. What a good example of how children's minds are molded by their surroundings (and those in their lives who fear snakes).
