A group of snakelings....might be a ?......>

LindaH Apr 24, 2005 04:42 AM

well....nothing, since they're solitary critters. However, I made up my own word, and I call them a "snaggle of snakelings" and here is a small "snaggle" of babies.

I find it interesting, in light of their serpentine solitariness, when they are placed in a little group like this on my kitchen table, they want to stay together. Even with me moving them around and untangling them....nobody wants to leave the group and head for the "hills". I think it's kind of cute - like they feel safer together. Maybe it's because I keep my babies together in pairs, that they are used to being with another snake. Whatever the reason, I was amused that not one of these could be coaxed into leaving the "snaggle ".

The Ghost and the orange (Ghost/Hog)are from my '04 litters. The others are babies I have gotten from my friends.

The one with the yellowish base color & long orange tail is one of Davey Giltner's Yellow pastels. She is getting more yellow with each shed. It's much easier to see in "snake" than in my pics.

The pink one is one of John Lokken's little girls. Is she turning into a rose or what?

The other baby with the beautiful brick red tail is from Mike Weitzman's Aby litter. Me thinks a Jungle was lurking in the wood pile

Enjoy the pics.... Jessica is stubbornly waiting me out and baby watch is getting old, so I'm going to bed...

Whereas I'm not really a fan of crosses, I must admit the hypo hogs really stand out. It seems they are cooler than the pastel hypos and I wonder what the hypo hog sunglows will look like. I have this really orange female hog (now gravid by a really nice male Hog). Maybe next time I'll try her with a hypo.

Simbo Apr 24, 2005 08:43 AM

Looks like she is going to to burst at the seems. Hopefully you will get lots of little Hogs out of her. Best of luck. What bloodline/breeder are they from?

I bred her. Here's a pic of her with her old mother. I got the mother many years ago from Don Mercer, and she was of Gordon Schuett stock. She might be gravid this year, too, I'm not sure. Mark

Both of those Hogs are outstanding Mark. How big are they? Excellent stock you have! Beautiful animals. I wish you the best of luck!
Take care,
Eric

They're about 6 plus feet. Thanks for the compliment. Here's the male they're bred to. Mark

Snaggle of snakes!!! Wow...that orange ghost hog is awesome! Just a beautiful pile! Andy

JohnLokken Apr 24, 2005 09:20 AM

That snake completely stands out from all the others. No offense to anyone else's boas ment here. Just awesome! Those are my favorite types of pictures! I love seeing different animals together. It really shows their variation well. Awesome group!!
Take care,
John

He and his sister have such bizarre coloring, they almost don't look real sometimes. It's hard to explain, but at night especially, they seem glow!

Your baby is really getting a lot of color....she seems more pink and red with every shed!

I looked down and knew exactly who they were before reading the post, minus Mike's Aby.

That Hog cross is my number one favorite boa ever! Just her though!

I think hypo hogs are beautiful and am wanting to explore the options myself. So far I only have two (1.1) juvs(thanks to Tim K. and GCR)and am planning on raising them up and working with them. Just curious, did you produce the orange ghost from a ghost/pure hog breeding or a ghost/hypohog breeding? My female hypo hog is just killer and I really want to try and exploit her colors =)

If anyone misunderstood Linda's post. She produced a litter last year of a Ghost male (Colombian) bred to her female Hog Island (Pure). The resulting offspring were Hypo Hogs het for Ghost.

The animal pictured is a DH Ghost.

johnnyblazekfd Apr 24, 2005 11:40 AM

Gotcha, it was just so light I thought it might have been a ghost. Very very pretty. Im just a hobbyist contemplating breeding maybe later so Im still a little slow on my gentics. A ghost is a hypo/anery just like a sunglow would be a hypo/albino? Is the anery gene recessive, dominant/codominant?

to what end! It was a fun ending to a long boring evening. When the picture session was over, I had to gather them all up for a group smooch!
