In my experience with plants (although pretty limited), I have found that ivy plants will work the best in high humidity and water situations. They grow pretty quickly, even when they don't have very many nutrients. Pea-sized gravel may not have enough nutrients to support a plant, though. Maybe if you put it in a small Gladware container with holes in the bottom for drainage, and put it in level to the ground, covered with the gravel? That way your plant has the benefits of dirt with the appearance of gravel! Hope it helps.

How about Pothos? It's one of your basic houseplants, found at most garden stores, it's very hardy and will grow in gravel.

Just do a quick Google search to find pictures, or here's one: http://www.always-online.com/owens/plant/pics/pothos.jpg
