Lost the last of my eggs

Bdimas Jul 10, 2003 10:02 PM

Today the last 2 tads died. They were'nt full tads yet, they still had gills. One of the tads was much bigger than the other, and had a huge tail. I was just using RO water, and aged tap. I have read some people use water treated with oak leaves, or using black water extract. What should I use? I have 4 more eggs that were just laid today.

Thanks,

Hi,
Don't get down on yourself too much.My auratus laid alot of eggs that developed about to where yours were and I didn't have much luck then either. What I started to do was when the eggs were laid, under a coconut hut on a pringles lid,was put them in a small deli cup filled the lid about full of water. The water I use is ro also but I added oak leaves to it so it has a weak tea look to it from the tannins. Then I cover the deli cup with its lid and it has worked out great so far.I lose a few but now have over 30 tads in variuos stages of growth. One more thing, how old are your frogs? Good luck with them.

My frogs are 2 years old. They dont lay in their hut, they lay on diffrent broms. I will try to use oak leaves on this clutch. How long do you leave the eggs in your viv before you remove them?

Thanks

Hi,
I usually keep them in there a day to make sure they have been fertilized. What species of frog are you working with?

I hear that using RO water isn't any good for eggs or tads, (it's missing minerals, etc)unless you add things to it. I use bottled spring water and if the eggs are good, I get about a 90% survival rate to tadpole. This is with about 80 eggs so far. I remove them the following day and just add enough water to touch the edge of the egg mass. I use oak leaves in the tad water after they have hatched out. I think I remember seeing that you have leucs, generally the first couple cluthes that leucs lay are bad.
