i think you should post this in the frogs forum....

also, you should NEVER purchase an animal unless you know how to properly care for it, especially feeding!

hey rachel
first of all it is not a frog it is a toad. second of all i didnt purchuse it i caught it.third of all i did do it on the toad forum. Fourth of all i have a chameleon. This is for my friend who has the toad!!!! so dont get all pissy!!!!!

gonexenopus Apr 24, 2005 01:30 PM

woah woah, sorry.

i would release the toad back to the wild. its sad to capture them and keep them as pets it might not eat anyways, due to stress from being kept in a cubicle when used to having the vastness of the environment. this is in the chameleons forum....

toads eat bugs and worms, probably smaller toads too.

capturing something from the wild and then trying to keep it (especially when you do not know its requirements) could cause stress, injury or death to the animal, besides it just not being fair. I think it is OK to keep something for a day or two for personal interest and observation, but should be released.

I found a gray tree frog on the windshield of my car once so I set him up in a little tank, put in some fruit flies that I had for other herps, observed, identified him, then released him (2 days later) into similar conditions. I also rescued a spring peeper and a red eft. Again, I kept them overnight, then put them in out woods by the river.

Set him free to mate and carry on his species

Hi T-Mac
Please keep in mind what this is. The Chameleon Forum. It's a public forum for a very narrow topic of discussion. Namely chameleons.
I've mad lots of friends here. We're all very happy to exchange ideas with one another and we tend to rely on one another's insights. Kind of like what you have going with your friend. (S)He keeps chameleons as well as amphibians, so it's logical for you to post a question directed at your friend in this forum.
Keeping that in mind, I would suggest posting your friend's name Directly on the subject line, that way others know that the question is directed specifically at an individual, rather than as a question about the forum's topic of discussion.
One last thing. Keep in mind that this is a PUBLIC forum. Please don't post degrading or personal attacks. (ie, calling someone Pissy). Treat others with the same respect you would like them to show you.
Not a personal attack on you, very sorry if it sounds like an attack. Good luck with your toad.

It is a very common species so i see no harm in him removing the specimen from the environment. I had a friend capture some toad tadpols and raise them with his son until the following spring at which time he release them. he found them to be very interesting. i will check what he did but i do know that he used kingsnake as a valuable sorce of info because he is the one that got me here.

enjoy your toad...
