When are balls breedable?

stilltraining Apr 24, 2005 01:13 PM

My ball has been acting kinda weird lately...hooking into our arms when we hold him, partially exposing himself, hasn't eaten in about 3 weeks. Was wondering at what size do their reproductive instincts kick in?

This little guy is almost 1 year old. I have 1 clutch from him 1 more due today and 2 more to go. He was 350g. when he bred his first girl!

....some males it's pretty early at 6-8 months of age and others it can be 12-18 months or even longer...partly it's genetic and partly food intake/cycling...pastels and spiders seem to kick in pretty early but this may be an artifact of "pushing" the snakes...my pastel sired a clutch last year when he was under 9 months and 720 gm, but this year my mojave didn't show much interest at 9-10 months and similar weight...now at one year I'm going to try him on a female that looks like she may be receptive...only 1 way to find out and that's putting them with a girl...good luck...

Would his being, for lack of a better word, horny affect his willingness to eat? He's never been the most predictable, but he usually doesn't go this long.

...probably the majority (>50%)of males fast during breeding, at least to some degree...depending on the male and how much he's putting into it, I'll give a male a break and offer food...but to avoid getting long-winded here, yes your male may be interested in breeding....sjm
