Dumerils Boas & Argentine Boas Illegal to ship across state lines

Prehistoric Apr 24, 2005 05:19 PM

I found out some interesting info. Dumerils and Argentine Boas are both listed as appendix I species. All appendix I species need special permits to be shipped across state lines. Why is it that everyone follows this rule when it comes to Indian Pythons, Radiated Tortoises, and Galopogas Tortoises, but very few follow it when it applys to more common (in captivity) species. Here is a link to a list of all the appendix I, II, and III species. Appendix I is listed in red, II in green, and III in blue. There are quite a few species that are listed here that are regularly shipped without permits.

I have always liked the indian pythons, but the closest place to get them is in california, and they say california sale only. I have noticed too lots of dumerils being sold and they say they can ship anywhere. Thats a very good question, i hope someone that knows the answer or an answer will respond. Good post.

Is it possible to ship across state lines with proper permits, or rather are permits available for CBB offspring?

Dumeril's and Argentine boas can be shipped or transported across State lines without permits because CITES listing and Appendix classification only apply to international shipments between member nations. For movement within the United States, permits are only required for interstate transport of species listed under the US Endangered Species Act regardless of CITES listing. This is why permits are needed within the U.S. for species such as Indian pythons and Indigo's and not for Dumerils or Argentines, even though all are Appendix I. Hope this helped clarify it somewhat; it is a situation a lot of people have questions about.
