what if instead of replaceing the top soil or dirt you just add a few earth worms to clean it up for you ??? think it will work

Some people use earthworms as an extra help for cleaning up, but theres no way they could eat all of the waste. You can but a few in to make it easier on you, but I wouldn't count on them to clean up everything.

I don't know of any reusable substrate. Just about anything will start to decay eventually.
