Is Louir gettin' too Hefty?

cherribomb Apr 24, 2005 07:14 PM

Is Lou fat? While he looks like a BIG boy, Mr. Fat Bastard here is only a few months old (really!)

He'll eat anything, even dead prey (yuck!)

Staple diet consists of gutloaded/home-fed crickets and occasionally gutloaded mealies.

I figure cause he's a baby, its OK. When should I start worrying about his weight? Or should I just let him be? He's growing like a frickin' WEED and he's gonna eat me out of house and home!

He has a 20 gallon with lots of frolicking play toys and I let him out to run around for exercise.

For 2 more pics, go to the link and click on Louie's folder.
Thanks!

Louie

I think he looks just fine. Lou is what I call in my colonies "the garbage disposal".. some of mine also will eat ANYTHING (even thawed pinkies). In my own experience, I've found it's not unusual for them to gain 10g a month if all the conditions are right. I've had leo's reach 70g by 6 months of age. (I do monitor them after that point... so they don't become overweight) But as for Lou... as long as he doesn't have trouble getting around (obese), I think he'll be just fine.

He's quite a handsome little guy! Congrats

Wow, 70g by 6 months...hehe, I think Louie is heading that way. He was growing so fast compared to my other wee ones that I was beginning to wonder if he's part giant! Louie's getting more orange in his tail every day. Nothing special but a handsome boy.

I was given him and his sister, Lola, as just-hatched rescue cases and I thought she wasn't going to make it -- she's active as heck and a fighter so she's got a great fat tail now but she's super-leggy and quite a bit smaller than him.

I know Lola is his sibling but she is Albino w/red eyes. I am almost certain that she's his clutchmate but is this possible? I'm not sure how clutch DNA works. She's getting more yellow on bands as she grows. No spots yet, which is odd. I'm very curious to see what she looks like when she's older.

Cherri, love the enclosure! Maybe you can give me some tips? Is that fish gravel as a substrate? It looks great!
