Have questions on eye worries

jayshouseolizzys Apr 24, 2005 08:32 PM

Hi all i have a question concerning my female cwd. She got some of the substrate in her eye a few days back, since then i have been using a qtip dipped in warm water to gently clean out her eye in a rolling fashion(the guy at the pet store i shop at showed me how he said they had the same problem with the substrate i used have changed to a larger chipped conconut bark instead). It has been seeming to work as she has had her eye open more but today I noticed a small patch of white in the front corner of her eye and it has me concerned. I am wondering if she is starting to get an infection or if it is because of the cleaning of the eye. I am considering taking her to the vet tomorrow. If anyone has any sugestions it would be greatly appreciated. And so would Baby(cause shes my little baby). thanks in advance.

I have been suggesting saline for eye cleansing, but recently read on a care sheet for eye infections to use turtle eye drops that are available in most pet stores. Evidently turtles get quite a few eye infections due to the lower proximity of their head to the ground. I don't use Q-Tips in the eye area because little threads of the cotton fiber can get in it and irritate as much as the substrate. They're almost invisible and your dragon can't tell you when they're in there! You can use a clean handkerchief, wash rag or gauze squares. No paper towels or kleenex as they are made of paper pulp and contain pulped wood which can scratch the eye.
