Another picture

You don't by any chance have a close up of him do you? I have an 04 hatchling from that area, Jackson Co. to be exact. He's 30" long and still has a considerable amount of pattern. Is that typical for the area for that size? He does have the whites and reds like you mentioned. Thanks. Alan,
I would say not typical, but not uncommon. We find more black, but also find ones that have diamonds going down the length of them. 8 out of 10 are pure black. Every now and again you will find one that has really pronounced diamonds.. Tom
The only other picture I have of that one..

Great Find!
Where in the country are you located. I haven't found any longer than 2'. I have laid out tin around some old barns hoping to find a few.

Thankyou, I am in Kansas City Missouri. They love tin and old barns you should have good luck.
Cool. I grew up in Oklahoma and had a lot of luck with roofing shingles. If you call baby rattlers and lots of spankings "luck". I'm in NC now, shouldn't matter though. I'll give it a week or so. I also baited some mice with my left over dear corn inside the barn. We'll see!

Now thats a serious blackrat! It seems those from your state get very dark.Heres a wild caught that I've had for 5 years now.He was 76" last september.

That is a nice one! Most of them around here do seem to be real dark, but we do find ones where the red and white between the scales is alot more visible.
Not only did I find the biggest rat under that piece of tin, but I also found alot of them. Here is a pic with five and four more crawled away. Tom
