That's a nice snake... and some really nice clear natural shots.

I thought the same thing upon capture until I flipped "it" upside down. I'm almost certain what makes him look gravid is a recent Nerodia he ate...lol. In all honesty it is a male that looks gravid if that makes any sense. He has since pooped and the meal has worked its way down slightly. He even took a f/t rat fuzzy tonight.
I have a male that is cream and black and has very even speckling. He was caught in Eastern Texas, anywhere near yours? Looks a bit similar.
Good luck,Thanks for sharing the pic.
Bob.
Bob, yes it was near eastern TX. We were in the SW portion of the state about 30 miles or so up from the coast. I thought when I saw the ones we collected that they were very similar to a lot of the astern TX snakes I've seen too.
I wish I could get a female that looked as nice as that with the cream color rather than yellow and the nice even speckling. Thats a keeper! If I can ever get a chance to figure out my new digital camera I'll try to post a pic.
By the way hows the temprament? While gotten as a wild caught adult, mine is really mellow. I'd aways heard/read that the wild caughts were buggers. Mine is a favorite in my collection. The tip of his tail looked like it was missing a bit when I first got him but seems to have have healed/regrown a bit.
Best to you.
Bob.
Bob, I would love to see your pics. I loce specks and especially seeing localities.
We collected 5 of them on Friday. They consisted of a 2.3 group and NONE of them even offered to bite. They were all very calm. SO this rumor about them being quite aggressive is hogwash to me. I catch them all the time here in MS and about 90% of them are calm.
Take care, .....and take some pics!

Were any of the females you kept anything like the pic of the male( even speckling and cream)? I'll try for the pic. Your lucky to live somewhere where you can field collect. I envy you.
Bob.
Bob, the others do have similar speckling. There are two hatchlings from last year in the group that are no longer than 15". They both still have the slightly banded pattern, but it is breaking up into the "multispeckled" appearance.
The other two are 23" and 29". They both are patterned like the large male but have smaller spots. One thing I need to ad is that all of them, excluding the male, are going through a shed cycle. So anything and everything could change over the next few months, and even this upcoming shed could bring some surprises. That's why I love them so much.
And yes I am quite happy that I live somewhere where I can encounter them regularly. I count it a blessing.
If you twist my arm I might be able to provide a home for a beautiful even speckled cream animal. lol.

..
Not to mention this speck fan could be "talked" into taking a few nice ones off your hands, you know, to help a brother out and all!

sorry 'bout the tired old pic but I love this guy!
Nice animal you have......is it a locale or not? It looks like some of the Missouri animals I've seen.
Calhoun county, near Tivoli, Texas. Thanks.
Todd
That's a beautiful Speckled King! It's great to see others posting pics of kings found in the wild on here. Thanks for sharing!
That is a looker for sure. I have never found one in the wild but hope too this year. I would freak to find one that nice. Tom Stevens
