Unlikely new species

eastarch Apr 24, 2005 09:51 PM

I have not posted to the list much recently, but have a question. I have a good collection of Uros which I have been building up over the last couple of years. I thought I knew all the species, but ran into something unlikely the other day. My local dealer got in a large order of Uros in which was something he called a new species which started with "L". He couldn't remember the whole name. My quess is it is an immature Henkeli or full grown Sikorae. My question is, has anyone heard of any newly discovered species? Or am I right in assuming this is a case of a misspelling or poor writing. I have been dealing with this person for yers and I don't think he would purposely mislead me. Sorry I don't have picture to better picture to post.

I always wonder the same thing about my sikorae. I have 3 sikorae and each one is so different looking than the other I worry soemtimes about breeding them that they're subspecies or something.

this site mentions 3 new species but they look like a mossy, allauadi, and a fimbriatus to me

your picture just looks like a unique sikorae.
I doubt if they found a new species that your dealer would be able to get his hands on one.

I have a male sikkorae that looks nearly identical to that.

as do i...the thing is theres so much variation within each species, some people mistake them for new species, cuz everyone dreams of getting something no one else has.

looks like a u. s. sameiti ( sp?)

umop_apisdn Apr 25, 2005 05:57 PM

i wouldnt even go so far as to say that. as i've said before, sameiti tend to have bright yellowish/greenish eyes. this one in the pic only has yellow around the skin lining the eyes, which is normal for u. s. sikorae. thenagain, i dont know for sure if there are sameiti without the yellow eyes...

If it is the same one I saw this sunday in White Plains ( and I think it must be because they also told me it started with an "l", Regal is sticking to the "new species" story. It was really nice looking and one of the employees plunked down the money I really didn't care what it was, I really liked it.

Yep, that is the same one. When I first saw it a couple weeks ago, I told them there were no Uros starting with "L" (other than the Lineatus) and it had to be a misprint. We got it at the leftover sale after that show for the usual after show discount. I was assuming it was a Sikorae, and purchased it as such. I am glad to see everyone is in agreement with me over this issue. I am not the employee though. I had asked him to pick it up for me if it was still there. I haven't gotten around to opening its mouth yet. I am one of those who believes it leaving them totally alone for a while after they come home to unstress and get used to this environment.

Now thats my kinda chicka. I don't mess with them for two- three weeks when they come in. Once they calm down some, then I start the drills and saws. lol.

Glad to see someone else with the same general idea.

I also don't shower them much the first two weeks. I give them one right away and follow that with heavy heavy heavy spraying for the next two weeks.

Cheers
Jason
