jayskee Apr 25, 2005 09:57 AM

I'm in the process of obtain some decent enclosures for my boas and have been trying to get some pros and cons about the boaphile and vision cages. Which one is more better, and any other companies that are decent. I'm interested in the 4 foot long styles. Thanks ...............Joe

I absolutely love boaphiles. The down side is lead time. They are very slow at getting your order out.

I use boaphile's and I like...the only problem I run into is finding right heat option! And yes order time is slow...but he is a great guy!! When you get a hold of him he is a big help!!!

I absolutely love my boaphile, but yes I agree that it takes a looong time to get your order. Mine took almost 2 months, but granted... I did order around the holidays, so he might have been very, very busy. I got the installed lighting, and I heat it with a UTH. Hot spot is always 95 degrees, and the air temp is always at least 80 degrees.

Plus, they look really nice -

Boaphiles positives are they are from a reliable herper built for holding humidity and temps well, a nearly endless available list of options to add to the enclosures. Negatives are slower delivery time (which most manufacturers suffer from a slower then what most people desire turn around) and a little pricey when you add in options.

Vision positives, sliding doors offers half enclosure access (which imo is much nicer then a full opened front especially when dealing with a snake with an attitude) very durable compared to any other enclosure manufacturer. negatives, I have heard they are having a really bad problem filling orders lately and they can be a pain to heat (although I have never had this problem personally.

Other enclosures to consider are Animal Plastics. Positives quite durable enclosure, thicker material is used. Negatives, I do not like the swing to the side design as the door gets in the way, also the doors warp over time. Keeping temps and humidity in the larger models is a pain but rectifiable.

Jungle Habitats Positives, light weight design like Boaphiles, very inexpensive, fairly quick turn around time compared to others. I do not know of any negatives to these really.

I have a 421D with double incage heat and light for my male columbian and it is so great I plan get another later this year for my female suri.

Pros:

-Looks amazing with the light if you decide to decorate it
-Doesn't weigh much
-No way a snake will get out
-I thought the price was good
-Holds heat and humidity good
-Doesn't take up much space
-Stackable

Cons:

-Kind of hard to see your boa
-Your room must be at least 75 to maintain correct temps
-Plastic front scratches very easily
-Long waiting time (took 6 weeks to recieve)

Both are excellent. Depends on your style. I have had Visions for a long time without any problem. I have dropped my Visions while moving and barely got a scratch which was barely visible; How many enclosures can do that? I like enclosures roomy for my females and the Visions are excellent for that. I like also like the boaphile and am thinking about buying some for my males.

I use the Vision 400 model. It looks good, the price is right at $199.00 shipped and they are easy to clean and heat. I use Dragons Lair Heat Mats from Big Apple between the bottom of the cage and a 3/4-inch piece of Styrofoam insulation. Heats up quick and stays at a steady temp. If you need to is not a big deal to remove the glass.

Things that turned me off from the Boaphiles. Build and shipping time, price and the full fold down front.

Thanks for the reponses guys. I'm going to jump on the boaphile train. I'm going to get the 5 cage stack set of the 4 foot cages. I like what I hear from the boaphile side. I appreciate the opinions.
