Milk hybrid question

xdeus Apr 25, 2005 09:59 AM

Is it possible to mix a Pueblan and a Black Milk? And if so, what is the outcome?

Though I am not anti hybrid, my guess is that cross is pointless. Much better off getting the opposite sex for each of those snakes and making plain ol Pueblans and Blacks. Tom Stevens

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't planning on crossing them, but I was just curious. Would you get a blend of the two snakes, or would some offspring come out as Pueblans and others as Black?

It is hard t predict, which is why I said it was pointless. Other Hybrid combos have some appeal due to patterns and colors blending into something cool looking. This combo however may amount to muddy ugly Pueblans with odd shaped heads, or at best the snakes may be larger than average....just guessing though. Tom Stevens

I gotta agree with Tom... I'm not against crosses and Hybrids but that Cross would really be pointless. the are two very different subspecies and i doubt the cross would produce something really special.

Hehe... the real question is, would the black milk's belly be half full or half empty? A sexually mature black milk is about twice the length of an adult Pueblan, so I think the Pueblan would be seen as more of a light snack than a mate. If you wanted to do a black milk hybrid, crossing with a Honduran or Andean would make more sense. It would be interesting to see if the offspring would go through the color change like black milks do, and how the trait would be passed on to the next generation. I've heard rumors that people have already done this, but no word yet on what the long term effects were.
