Leonardi / bella

JFDery Apr 25, 2005 01:15 PM

Reviewing the new proposed nomenclature of Elaphe, I noticed that E. leonardi (bella) was not included. Also, I read that bella and leonardi are synonyms, but they are both listed as species in the EMBL reptile database.

Can anybody link me to accurate reference on the current status of E. leonardi?

Thank you,
Jean F. Déry

Utiger says that bella is a senior synonym for leonardi and although he didn't have any DNA material to work with he believed it should be compared to Euprepiophis (mandarinus, conspicillatus, perlaceus). But there's not much info out there on bella. See Schulz's monograph for references on bella (as leonardi).

John
