QUESTION ABOUT SUNGLOWS

METALLICSILVER01 Apr 25, 2005 02:42 PM

HI, I AM CONFUSED. IS SALMON THE SAME AS HYPO? I KNOW BOTH PARENTS HAVE TO CARRY THE ALBINO GENE, BUT DO THEY BOTH HAVE TO CARRY THE SALMON/HYPO GENE AS WELL TO PRODUCE SUNGLOWS, OR DOES JUST ONE PARENT HAVE TO HAVE THAT GENE? SO IF A PURCHASE A SNAKE THAT WAS BREED FROM A F1 MALE SALMON TO AN ALBINO FEMALE, IS IT GOING TO BE 100% HET SUNGLOW? I WOULD APPRECIATE IF ANYONE COULD ADDRESS ALL OF MY QUESTIONS. THANK YOU

Hypos and salmons are the same thing. Many people will argue that Salmons are from Rich Ihle and that Hypomelanistic boas are from Jeff Gee but that really proves nothing as they have both have bred similar looking salmon/hypos. Some people will say that the pattern is the difference yet it has been proven that the more you breed the salmon/hypo gene the more that the pattern reduces and cleans up. Hypos and Salmons have the ability to produce similar offspring; anyone that differs has not seen all of the offspring produced by the salmon pioneers. Jeff does produce salmons with little pattern and Rich has produced boas with lots of it. If I am correct Jeff currently has an adult female for sale of which has a lacking pattern and Rich has a few salmons with detailed patterns, the opposite of what they are known for. “Salmon” was a word used by Rich Ihle to describe the color of the boas, not the pattern.

I was a little confused by your question but I think I know what you mean. If you are asking if both boas need to be salmon to produce sunglows, the answer is no. You can produce sunglows with a Salmon/Hypo het. for sunglow and a normal. het albino.
