one year olds....

notabigdeal Apr 25, 2005 05:09 PM

i have two BP's that are going to be a year old at the beginning of may. they are "supposed" to be sisters. (they are siblings, im just not sure of the sexes) they weigh 608gms and 496gms respectively. my question is are these good weights, or are they under weight. they both eat a small rat every five to eight days. (by the way, they wont even pay attention to frozen/thawed food....only live for my snakes) thanks for your input.

Thanks
Deal

p.s. can weight and size be a good determining factor in sexing them? (they each have eaten the exact same amount of food at the same time, never missed a meal.)

sorry so long....im a novice.

Snakes are quite variable.

With that said, they are eating well; you say they eat every 5-8 days. I feed my babies/juvies every 5 days if they take it. At about a year I switch to 7 days.
As long as you are offering appropriate sized meals, the weights sound ok.

My just under yearlings are at 600-800 grams, but they have all eaten rats since their second meals.
Although, they all fasted this winter, to some extent.

"can weight and size be a good determining factor in sexing them?"

Not in my experience.

As I initially stated snakes are variable, you can't accurately pigeonhole them.

For example, one of my males is near the top in weight in my current pre-yearlings.
