I used both an above ground koi pond or a large kiddie pool.
Do you use a filter in the kiddie pool? My snappy is in a kiddie pool, but i'm having all kinds of trouble w/ the filter, getting knocked over, etc.

Kiddie pools are large, cheap, and can be kept in the basement with a submerged heater in the winter months. The one in the picture is small enough to fit on a small table
i have mine in a 300 gallon stock tank. i think its rubbermaid. i use a pond filter in it. pondmaster1250 i think it is. i use two fish tank heaters. highest wattage i could get. they keep the water at 75-78. my ally is about 12-15 inches in shell length and 5yrs old
