RETF enclosure and other inhabitants...

demoniendin Apr 25, 2005 09:51 PM

Im designing a VERY large enclosure (comes out to about 110 gallons) for a colony of tree frogs with a complete water feature and all of that stuff. MY questioniis if there are any species of fish I can put in the water for effect that would be safe for the RETFs to share an enclosure with? I'm thinking small fish such as guppies or some other fish. Anything that might look decent and give the tank somethign to look at even when the RETFs are hidden during the day. They enclosure WILL have live plants, many, including aquatic ones and a filtered system for the water, probably for a waterfall/misting system.

Anyways, so what are your thoughts on the subject. Thankyou fro ANY feedback.

With a filtered water system as you described your choices will be based on whether or not you encorporate a heater or have room temps able to maintain 78-82 degree water temps. If you can accomplish this, your choice of fish species will increase dramatically.

I would choose one or two of the many species of schooling South American tetras like neons or the prettier cardinal tetras. With these colorful, peaceful species your best solution for "visual appeal" is to limit the number of species to 2-3 but get large schools of each, 20-30 based on the available water space. It makes for a more dramatic effect than 2-3 fish of 12 different species.

Adding 2-3 cory dora catfish will help with excess food cleanup and the little guys are cool to watch.

Post pics when you can.
