Little Guy Nibbling

colorfulcritters Apr 25, 2005 11:20 PM

I saw my little yb take a nibble on some floating sticks today. But I don't think he got much. Anyways, he hasn't eaten for over a week, and I'm afraid for him.

He won't eat worms yet, no raw meat or fish. I don't know how he's surviving, although this nibble is a good sign.

What would you do to get him to start eating? Do you think putting him outside for sun would help?

If you live in a warm enough climate putting him outside during the day may help. However, you don't want to change his environment too much because he is prob. stressed and this may cause further stress. I would try keeping his water very warm and clean. Try giving him more live food to stimulate his appetite. If he doesn't show signs of improvement I would take him to a vet.

Try soaking the food before you give it to him, it may be too hard for him to bite in to.

Heartily agree! When offering food sticks for the first time ALWAYS pre-wet them. Texture is extemely important for that first bite. Later, it doesn't mater.

What's the water temperature?

colorfulcritters Apr 29, 2005 08:11 AM

The water temp's at 28-30C. It's been fine for the other turtles. In the day I put the little guy out for a couple of hours, then try to feed him. It doesn't seem to be working.
