20 mice in a sitting

McDowelliCheynei Apr 26, 2005 03:49 AM

hey all

my jungles eat like machines, but i keep hearing of others' snakes needing to eat like 20 mice per sitting...

Well, i just had an idea. How about skinning like 10 mice and sewing the skins onto some big rats?? And then, next feeding, use 9, then 8, and so on and so forth until the snake is just eating the big rat??

Or getting 2 mice and one small rat and sewing them together.. then use 2 rats and 1 mouse... then just rats??

If you use disolvable thread.. it could work...
It would be kinda messy but would save a hell of a lot of money and time in the long run

So has anybody tried this?? I do recall of reading someone's post where they sewed a mouse's head onto the body of a rat.. and that worked??

Sorry bout the rambling.

Hi!

My jungles won't eat rats, but i havent tried any of that. I just feed mine hamsters of appropriate size! Works for me!

I have a very large IJ that won't eat rats no matter what I do. I've never offered him a hamster.

Do you buy your hamsters frozen?

I've never tried hamsters before but my JCP won't take rats so I kill all the mice I'm going to feed and just drop them in the bottom of her feeding cage and she eats them like a dog. It's very easy except all the blood. She'll also take chicks, but they are so loud and stinky it freaks my girlfriend out. I don't know about going through all the trouble of skinning and sewing. I get huge adult live mice for a buck apiece so it is kind of expensive but I've excepted the fact that this is the way it's going to be.

I buy them live from a local pet shop, for a special "snake food" price (2 euro's 50 cents, about $2,75 i guess) and kill them before my JCP's even get close because hamsters will bite!!

Man what size is your snake? If I had to feed my Jungle mice I would be there forever. I had a male Jungle that would only eat white rats, so maybe try a different color. I really believe the key to getting these guys to eat rats is to start as early as possible. I've been lucky all of my Jungles have accepted rats. As to reply to your question no I've never sewn a mice to a rat.
