Mosca Update

purduecg Apr 26, 2005 08:38 AM

Zuberi Mosca Khu, or Mosca when he isn't in trouble, has been growing like a mad man. He is decently sociable. He spazzes when you try to pick him up, but as soon as you have him he plays dead for about 30 seconds, and then starts looking for whatever treat I brought for him. The other night he ate 1/2 his dinner while sitting on my hand, I thought that to be a wonderful breakthrough. I tried to feed him OFF my hand to get him to used me... but that ended poorly for me. He is not very accurate when he grabs food, and you can hear his jaws snap shut all the way accross the room when he eats.. I am sure you can see where this is going. lol.

The only problems I have had is 1 - keeping enough food in Mosca's dish, he eats about twice his size in greens daily, and 2) The more time I spend with Mosca, and the bigger he gets the more I get eyed by Archimedies. I think he may be thinking "trator"... he has also started eyeing Mosca, somehow I do not think the two of them will be friends.

Anyway, here is a picture of Mosca soon after I got him last October. The next post has a picture of him now. it is the SAME LOG, just so you know.

holy cow! do you have him on steriods he looks great. i know he is still young so i don't know if you feed him any dry food but i have noticed with my guys, they have a much better aim with the dry food. i have not had any bites when feeding veggies but it's been really close a couple times. perhaps if you post a picture of archimedes, then he will stop giving you the evil eye, ha ha

I actually do feed him dry food about once a fortnight, but it is the teeny tiny fruit flavored finch food (man made, not seeds), so that would be even worse! lol. I was actually pretty worried I was stunting his growth since I haven't been feeding him any overt protien, just what is in his greens, and the occasional bird food. No monkey chow for my babies!

I think "He" is probably a "she", according to what Lindsay has said, but who cares. I have already determined that Mosca is going to need a new cage by this summer. Poor Archie may have to move again (he SOOOO hates that). I wish I had made Archie's new cage shorter for him, but it is the perfect height for an enormous Egyptian... so I may make a second one, and just make it shorter.

I have not been able to measure the length on either of them, but I would say Mosca is about 2/3 as long as Archie is already. Obviously not as filled out and everything, but he has a tail that goes on forever. It has been really interesting to watch him grow up. I want to get him used to the leash and harness while he is little so he likes it, instead of fighting it, but I think that is still probably a couple months off.

Thank you for the kind words. It is always so nice to hear OTHER people complement one's kids.

Elizabeth

ps - Here is a picture of Archimedes so that he doesn't feel left out.

Archimedes is very beautiful too! When you set up the new cage you can always just put everything in exactly the same spot in the new cage so they adjust easier. I have so much extra reptile stuff (don't we all) that I can duplicate a cage quickly. LOL Your babies are healthy and happy and that's what is important. Good luck.

Mosca is beautiful and you are obviously doing a fantastic job at raising him. What a difference in size, a tremendous growth rate. Keep up the good work. It seems like Archimedes(sp)might be a tad bit jealous. LOL
