New camera, trying out the macro on my Albino Granite

She is an Aug 04, "dog tame",(I hate that phrase, but it fits). Her colors are amazing. This was on the kitchen table with one overhead light bulb at night. This weekend I am going to try some outside with some good light.

Just wondering,

Have you had any problems focusing with that Nikon cam? I've heard they have some difficulties in low light conditions.

Well, I took about 40 pics, and no, not a problem focussing as much as getting the animals to hold still. I bought the Coolpix 5400, which lets you focus in at less than 1/2 inch from your target. If they move even a little, than it is blurry. The light I used was actually the kitchen light, so no, not a low light problem at all, just tricky subjects.

Another thing I found out about this particular model. There is a series of boxes in the form of a cross when you are in Macro mode. You can select which box or quadrant of the picture you want to focus on. With snakes, they tend to "S" up and I think sometimes the point and shoot models pick the closest point of the snake to focus on. You may want the head, but it sees part of the body first. Just a thought.

Just a couple more.

I know when I was looking for a camera, I needed to see different pics. So hope this helps those contemplating. I am in no way a photographer, so I think the Nikon Coolpix is the way to go. Good luck.

I love macro sooo much. Did you buy a camera with a macro lens attached or add one later? Mine claims to have a macro function, but it doesnt do nearly as good closeups as a real macro lens would. Im going to look into buying attachements....

If your camera came with it attached would you mind sharing how much it cost? thanks

Sorry it took so long. This was the standard lense that is included with the Nikon Coolpix 5400. It's specs state that you can get within .4 inches of your subject. I was about 2 inches away with these shots. The camera goes for about $500, but you can find refurbs with warranties on Ebay for about $300. I received a 3 year with mine. Great Camera, no complaints so far.

That is a brilliant shot! I really like the nose. Not all beaten up or dry looking. Very shiny, smooth scales. Great shot!
