Feeding response behavior changes...Anyone else see this?

dpitch13 Apr 26, 2005 01:41 PM

When my b/w tegu first woke up middle of last month from hibernation, its feeding response was pretty heavy, as expected. But in the last week or so there hasn't been any feeding response. It's a little over a year old, and 37" snout to tail. It's only eating about 75% of what it did when it first woke up, and waits a few hours before eating instead of right when i put its food in. Cage environment hasn't changed. I'm wondering if this behavior is worthy of a trip to the vet. Any ideas? For all intensive puruposes, cage is 6x3x3, humidity 60-70%, mulch/peat moss substrate, basking temp 115-120, ambient temp 80-85, steady diet of mice/turkey balls (w/ minerall I) and occasional fruit. Thanks

every thing seems perfect to me.perfect temps both basking and ambient.. perfect substrate although you could just use cypress and cut out the peat moss it doesnt matter. diet seems good its just like my blue tegus one question though do you freez your ground turkey? this getsrid of all the bacteria.. good luck

I have had this when I fed too cold of meat a few times. If you are thawing frozen meat, make sure it is room temp before feeding. My fatasaurus will leave anything that was served cold. Just refuses to eat it. Best of luck!
