Luna and silkies!!

lele Apr 26, 2005 01:47 PM

I hatched out a bunch of eggs for food for Darwin (new bd). Just for the heck of it I offered one to Luna and she took it! Why am I so surprised? Because they are less than 1/2" long - I figured she would laugh at me! So what I did was cluster a bunch together and put them in a cup and she shot them! This way she is getting something a bit more substantial (and calcium!!).

She spent about 2 hours in the sun today (finally warmed up enough again), then took a hefty dose of Repta-aid. I am psyched that she is taking these silkies. Obviously, it will be a bit time consuming to pull them apart from their food and get enough to make it worth it to her but hey, when have I ever skimped when it comes to my baby

Just wanted to share the news in light of all my downer posts, lately

Hey, you can order them that size from California silkworms....I use half and half with my chameleons. How is Luna looking? Less sunkin in? Just a thought...maybe she is getting too much calcium. Sometimes too much calcium can have a negative effect and simulate dehydration. I think after this you will be the calcium queen. Count me in as one of the new "Lunatics"....
LOL

Lunatics! I love it. Neighbors have called me the "luny" (looney) lady for years because I raise luna moths, now Luna has a following of her own! lol!

Yes, I know you can get them that small but why buy when I/you can raise my/your own (see article on chameleonnews.com Becuase she hasn;t been eating and the silkies were so small I never even botherd to offer her any and just hoped her appetite would be back once some were bigger - but now I will just make little, wriggly silkie balls for her! Good thing I have zillions of eggs!

The calcium is definitely an issue but we can't quite get her balanced. In December, when the MBD showed more symptoms, her level was fine(!), last week it was quite high, thus the calcitonin. She'll be tested regularly for a while - there is a long history with her. She goes from low to thru the roof!

I am hoping the sun will hold her over for a few days since it will be cold and rainy. I took her out a secoend time just to get extra rays!
