Boa won't feed ?

CarolinaSerpent Apr 26, 2005 06:13 PM

I purchased 3 Baby BCC from Zoological Imports 14 days ago. The male and one of the females have fed twice but one of the females shows no interest and acts scared. I have tried different sized foods, live and f/t but still no interest. She is much skinnier than her counterparts but still active. They are all kept in a rack with proper heating, water, hide spots etc. so it can't be their setup. Maybe she needs to shed before I try to feed again? Any tips would be appreciated. I am not too worried, though but I have never had a Boa that never fed :-/

Then give her a week off from everything. No feeding attempts, handling, nothing. Just take a peek every day or two. After that time, try a live hopper just after sunset. Toss it in there quietly, close her back up & check in an hour or so. If she didn't eat it, then remove it & give her another 3-4 days off & try again. If that doesn't work, try a brainded hopper & leave it in overnight. Then maybe come chicken broth on a live hopper. The biggest thing is patience. If these methods or many others if people will chime in, don't work in the next 3 weeks then more drastic measures may have to be taken. Such as assist feeding. Make sure to treat all of them for parasites ASAP. A proper dose of Metronidazol may help her feeding response.

Thank You soooo much! I will definitely do that. She is still veryyyy active and I raised the humidity to 60% from 40% so maybe that will put her in the hunger mood, too. I'm just getting into breeding Boa's (always had them as just pets) and your help will be a great lesson into the start of my Boa-venture, if you will
