Planning To Get A Tokay...(more)

BeArDyCrAzY Jul 11, 2003 01:27 AM

I have been doing research and haven't come across anything that says that Tokay's are fussy eaters but my friend jus purchased a tokay and it's not eating. Well my question is, are they fussy eaters? or did my friend just get unlucky and picked a tokay that doesn't eat?

Since it's so new, it probably just needs time to settle in. Give it a few days before worrying too much. If it still don't eat, it sounds like your friend got a fussy or sick tokay. Most tokays eat quite a bit. It shouldn't be too hard force-feeding a tokay though (IF NEED BE). Just get it to gape its mouth and then drop a cricket into the open mouth.

like what was stated above, just let it settle in. it will either start to eat or not, if not it's probably sick. my tokay is now 17 inches long and from his first shed he's eaten everything in site. he now eats 25 to 30 crickets a night and i ussually don't feed him crickets because he eats too many! he is in perfect health, not too skinny, not too fat, just perfect. if i was to give him any more he would eat them too. tokays are very harty eaters! if they are healthy you should never have any problems getting them to eat. hope this helps!!!!!

All mine ate immediately when I brought them home and put them in their home, thats after either a 1 1/2 or 4 hour drive. Could be its needs a little time. I had one I brought home and didnt eat right away, this went on for 2 weeks. I returned her(3 hour round trip) and brought home another female that ate immediately and is now currently laying eggs and very healthy. Hope your friends starts eating. I f u want a CB juvie contact me.
