It seems like every newbie wants a dog tame monitor. It aint gonna happen. No monitor "Likes" to be handled. It is hard wired into their systems that if they are grabbed, they are eaten. All you can do is gain it’s trust. You do this by spot cleaning, water changes and feeding.
Not even this always works. I have an adult blackthroat that will do anything it has to to escape my grasp. I will not get rid of him. I took him in and he is my responsiblity for the next 20 or so years.
I give him what he needs and leave him alone. He is a great lizard because I let him be what he is and always will be. A monitor.
