Corn snakes still "at it"

kohrn Apr 26, 2005 10:38 PM

I keep my two corn snakes together. This year we first observed mating activity about the end of March. They are still very interested in mating (at least a couple of times each week). Does this mean she has not "caught" for some reason. (She's looking plump and begining to have a milky cast to her skin), or is it time to put in a nest box. They have previously had at least 5 clutches that I know of (we got them 4 years ago), so compatibility isn't a problem.

Corrine,

Some male corns will try to breed even after the females have had their pre-egglaying shed.

I'd put a nest box in there to be on the safe side.

Mine still haven't laid yet, but I have two definitely gravid females and the males don't stop mating just because they've already done the business! I've had to take the males away, because they were pestering the females to the point where they couldn't settle in the nest boxes in peace.
