Defining Bloodlines (Satanics)

Hurlebaus Apr 26, 2005 11:11 PM

To those out there and as I've read there are a few who've bred Phants successfully I'm wondering what you think. About five months ago I acquired my first male Satanic (veteran cham guy) and now I've fell in love with Uros in general. So eventually on 2 seperate occasions I came across an opportunity to get an additional individual at an unbelievable price, first a female and then a male. All are housed together. If my observational skills serve me correctly she is probably gravid, she has gradually increased in girth and I have found her digging practice holes a few times. So this made me wonder, if she was, who could the sire could be? If she is close to laying eggs then the second male would have had been a quick worker be cause he hasn't been in there very long at all (couple weeks). So if the first male did it without the second present how important is it to house these males in small communties? Are there any success stories out there involving 1.1 housing arrangements? Without being able to observe them intently how can I be sure of who the father is? What are your thoughts on possibly housing them in pairs but giving the males visual access to each other, that causes a reaction in many other herps, so why not here?

What happens when your chilling with a friend of your at a party and this chick strolls up to you both and starts flirting with your buddy. She's totally gorgeous, tall, slim built with a great smile. She fits your image. She starts talking with the both of you and everything is going well. Your buddy's interested in her. Then she starts flirting with you. So all three of you start really chatting it up. She steps away to grab a drink. Your buddy tells you to take one for the team by giving up on the chick so he can get lucky. Now your like "Dude! no way! Man I'm all about this girl." Then you both start getting pushy with each other. She comes back and sits down between the two of you and starts flirting immediately with you. But your buddy is trying to jump in on the situation...
So your both trying to get this great girl...

Are you more likely to likely to go after a girl when someone else is or are you more likely to look at your buddy through some glass and say "Sh@t man I see her but theirs my buddy in his cage. I better try and get to her..."

To stimulate the male, you need to have them both in the same cage.

Wow that was long winded and totally reminds me of college.

How about with Henkeli? as I said, I'm getting two females to put in with my male in may, making my Urop colection 1.2 How does this ratio work? should I put another male in there also? (large viv, about 4'x2'x2')

well i think that with the henkels its a little different. my one male(the one housed with a female) got out the other night and went right up to the other male's (that i had most recently aquired) cage and was flaggin his tail at him. i think the aggressor was tryin to determine if the other male was a female or not. when i got my first "pair" it wasn t really a pair, but two males-one a little more mature than the other. i kept them together in an inverted 29 gal. i d notice bite marks on eachothers tails but didnt think it was anythin out of the ordinary. the dominant male would do a tail flaggin signal to the other one kinda like how leopard geckos do when they eat, but with the tip flickering fowards while waving back and forth. i mean, they would definitely show aggression towards eachother even if they had a whole room to themselves, but they are no wheres near as violent towards eachother as day geckos would be.
