Look what I found today

Out on a hike with my father in the national forest "Eldorado" I figured during our ten mile hike I would get a little field work done. I found this little guy under a rotten log near a run off streem. I snapped this shot "Wich I wish came out better" and put him back as I found him. I looks kinda like a C. Newt in the picture but thats not what it is. Unfortunatly the name of this species is eluding me now. Any help? Hope you like.

It looks like an Ensatina. I beleive you have 2 subspecies in the Eldorado NF. The Sierra-Nevada Ensatina, Ensatina eschscholtzii platensis, which is usually patterned and the Yellow-Eyed Ensatina, Ensatina eschscholtzii xanthoptica.

Thanks for the info. I believe I was informed the last time I found one that they are not to all common of a find now a days in that area so that made it so much better to find this one. It is very unfortunate that the picture did not come out as good as I would have liked it to. Oh well maybe I will get a better picture next time.
