oregonlizardlady Jul 11, 2003 01:45 AM

I have this huge cage sitting here in my living room. I just don't have the heart to take it out. I just cant beleve that somthing like this could happen. I really do want another iguana. I don't think i could stand to take the cage out. The house just wouldent look the same without it. If anyone knows of an iguana that needs a good home then please let me know. cmorgan1980@hotmail.com

I think its so terrible what happened to your Ig, and that its wonderful that you want to adopt another one. After I got Tempest, I wasn't sure if I was going to keep him and looked at adoption sites, and was apalled at how many igs are out there looking for homes. I'm so glad I kept him! Anyways, here's some sites I found with adoption boards:

http://www.scalesandtails.org/ - exotic pet rescue, lots of igs

http://www.reptilerescue.on.ca/ - really nice people in Ontario, Canada

www.greenigsociety.org - follow links to adoption board, lots of igs

greeniguanasociety.org .... Plenty of Igs In Need of Loving Homes. Also Search the Net for Reptile Rescues. There are THOUSANDS of Igs out there. You can't go to a rescue site without seeing Igs for adoption. Be sure to post a Pic of the one you get!

I hate to tell you all that iguanas are now ranked as the #1 reptile being dumped, abandonded, or turned into rescues. they now outnumber the larger snakes. As far as overall pets, they rank in the top 5 of pets no longer wanted. It is always refreshing to find groups of people who thought before they bought...or adopted. Adopting a "used" iguana won't bring your beloved pet back, but I have a pretty strong hunch you'd give it a great home.

Thanks! I know very well that getting another one wont help the feeling of loss over my Ozzy. But i think it might bring some satisfaction in knowing that the one i adopt will be a cherished family member, not just a pet.
