Tiger Python??

chiropteragirl Apr 27, 2005 01:32 PM

Someone in my area is selling a snake they are calling a Tiger Python. I did a search but for some reason my computer is not showing me pictures today (damn activeX issues). Can someone shed some light on what a tiger python is? Sorry if this is a stupid question...-Bats

When using the name correctly, a tiger python is the European (more commonly German) term for a python of the molurus group. Burmese pythons are referred to as dark tigers and Indian/Sri Lanka pythons are referred to as light tigers. However, he could be using the term loosely and is just talking about a tiger phase retic.

Depending where the seller is from, he could very well be referring to molurus. I am Russian and I know that any Python molurus is called “Tiger python” in Russian, probably similarly to other neighbouring and European countries. Better try to see the snake yourself.

I don't have any intentions on buying it, especially since it is probably a Burm. Not that I have anything against Burmese Pythons, but I already have Two Albinos that were dropped off at my door by a friend who made an impulse buy and after a few months met a guy who hates snakes. I am just keeping them for now so I can get them in good condition. I pretty much have my hands full with boas, balls and geckos.- Bats
